Semiconductor Detectors, be expended to produce an electron-hole pair in a semiconductor, while the value is ≈30 eV in an ionization chamber. The lower energy increases the number of electron-hole pairs per MeV of radiation and decreases the relative statistical variation in this number. Hence the energy resolution is increased, that is, R is decreased.

Scintillation Counters,n 1944, Curran and Baker replaced the use of the naked eye by a photomultiplier and later Kallmann replaced the small, thin crystals of ZnS by naphthalene.
