Radiation of Waterborne Noise Due to Ships Machinery Part I: Airborne TransmissionDuring the past two years BMT have been developing design guidance methods such that shipbuilders may estimate waterborne noise levels due to ships machinery. Noise transmissions due to structure-borne and airborne noise within the vessel have been considered.

Acoustics in Marine Structuresh generates high noise levels. Two features which are perhaps more particular to ships are that the machinery is installed in a lightly damped steel structure and, in many cases, the people must remain in the noisy environment for periods of up to several weeks.
