Hopf Meets Hamilton Under Whitney’s Umbrellala. We show that the Hamiltonian case lies on the “handle” of Whitney’s umbrella. This allows us to investigate near-Hamiltonian or weakly dissipative systems that lie in a tubular neigh-borhood of the handle of Whitney’s umbrella.

Noise Sensitivity of Stochastic Resonance and Other Problems Related to Large Deviations stochastic resonance are among these problems. We calculate the action functional when the Wiener process is replaced by the random walk, find the relation between the small parameters which provide convergence to the solution of the problem with the Gaussian white noise as the perturbation, and calculate the correction term.

Stochastic Averaging Near Homoclinic Orbits Via Singular Perturbationsrturbed test function via a boundary-layer PDE near the homoclinic orbit. Solvability of this PDE is equivalent to the glueing conditions of Freidlin-Wentzell. Details of our calculations will appear elsewhere.
