Observation of a Long-Stay Ward for the Elderlybetes. Some had speech impairments or were unable to speak, or eat or swallow. Many were incontinent. Nearly a fifth had hearing and visual problems. Few were terminally ill, but all would remain in long stay care until they died. Several had been on the wards for over ten years.
