Molten Salt Corrosion of Ceramicsor grain boundary attack from corrosion, which leads to a strength reduction. One approach to limiting corrosion of SiC is the use of coatings. Mullite is more corrosion resistant than SiC, has a comparable thermal expansion coefficient and thus is an ideal coating candidate. Performance of mullite coated SiC is discussed.
