Characterization of amplified DNA sequences in human cancersprovides means to increase the copy number of certain DNA sequences during a single cell cycle. Submicroscopic circular molecules, called episomes, were found in cells with amplified genes and might represent precursors of dmin (Carroll ., 1988; Van Hoff ., 1988; Wahl, 1989).
