Periwinkle Alkaloids I: Vinblastine and Vindesinehe mechanism of action of these drugs has been extensively reviewed elsewhere.. These drugs have a very high affinity for tubulin and inhibit its polymerization. This leads to mitotic arrest and subsequent cell death. The vinca alkaloids are most active against premitotic cells and thus are cell cycle phase-specific agents.
