Introduction: In Memory of Joseph Hirsch (1876–1947)e was not too advanced. In 1927, he published his results with a 13-year period of meticulous follow-up. Hirsch appears to be one of the first surgeons — if not the very first — to publish a controlled study or breast-conserving therapy in combination with radiotherapy for carcinoma of the breast.
