Inhibitory Nonadrenergic, Noncholinergic Innervation of Airways Smooth Muscle: Role of Nitric Oxiden to function in defiance of the normal rules of neurotransmission, having no storage vesicles and no known special release mechanism. This chapter will discuss the evidence that NO is involved in neurally mediated relaxation of airways smooth muscle in a variety of species.
