Moral Philosophy as Applied Science,Over the past years Shockley had learned much about human behavior in general. Most of it, including the deceptions of former employees, had lowered his opinion of human affairs. While teaching courses at Stanford University, he turned his attention to social problems.

Epilogue,In 1987 Shockley learned that he had prostate cancer but choose not to undergo surgery. Within a year, the cancer had metastasized to his bones and he began receiving treatments at the Mayo Clinic, although to little avail. He died at home on the morning of August 12, 1989, aged 79.
