Laboratory Simulation of Ionospheric Double-LayersA mechanism for double-layer formation in partially- or fully-ionized plasmas is described, founded on beam-plasma interaction: rf growth along the beam excites a rectified, ponderomotive electric field, which in turn causes charge separation. Non Linear Wave Particle Interaction Theory Applied to Siple Triggered Emissions Important aspects of the theory are underlined. Parameters for Siple triggered emissions are used and “quasi-static” generation regions are constructed. Siple results are found to fit the theory very well.
