The Choir Invisible: The Poetics of Humanist Piety,.. Moreover, the poem has virtually disappeared from anthologies of Victorian literature. Such neglect is intensely ironic for the same reason that our interest in the poem this year is so fitting: it teaches that immortality consists in the survival of influence.
