The Ligand Polarisation Model for d-d and f-f Intensities,The ligand polarisation (LP) model for Laporte-forbidden transition probabilities is introduced and developed in some detail for the f-f case. Expectations are compared with those of the crystal field model. The LP model is extended to cover vibronic transitions and the symmetry implications are investigated.
