Preparation of Rare Earth Sulfides and Selenides,sulfur content compounds, various methods were proposed starting from the R2S3 compounds. For example, one of them was the reduction of R2S3 + R2O3 mixtures by aluminium in a vacuum, at a high temperature. Nowadays, such a method has no more reason to be used, because the direct action of the R.E. metal on the R2S3 sulfide is more convenient.
