Interaction between ionic surfactants and soil colloids: adsorption, wetting and structural propertexes were determined by SAXS. The intercalation of organic compounds in the interlamellar space of layered silicates and humates was measured by x-ray diffraction using powder samples and suspensions. The structural properties of the surfactant coated clay suspension were characterized by rheology.

An approximative method for the transformation of kinetic sorption data from batch-experiments to txample, sorption of 3-chlorophenol in a model soil column from Na bentonite was chosen. Results show that a considerable influence of adsorbent concentration on the proportion of reversibly and irreversibly adsorbed species and, therefore, also via this effect on the transport velocity in the model
