Computing Finite Sums,mma function, fall as particular cases of these more general results. We also show why the Euler-Maclaurin summation formula is connected to polynomial approximation. Finally, we extend results to composite finite sums.

Introduction,nto the question of how to generalize discrete finite sums and products from the set of integers into the entire complex plane, which give rise to the notion of fractional finite sums. We discuss the history of this problem in this chapter, describe the contributions of this book, and sketch an outline to the remainder of the chapters.
