Interstellar Dust,Interstellar matter is an important component of our Galaxy although its mass may be less than 10% of the whole system. The structure of the Galaxy is strongly affected by the distribution of interstellar matter and its evolution is mainly determined by the amount of interstellar gas and dust which is available for star formation.

Prestellar Evolution,A symposium on a very similar subject was held in Liège at the beginning of July 1969 and although, for reasons of time and competence, it is quite out of the question for me to try to summarize its proceedings here systematically, I shall certainly refer often to results presented there.
