Algebraic Statistics, Tables, and Networks: The Fienberg AdvantageStephen Fienberg’s affinity for contingency table problems and reinterpreting models with a fresh look gave rise to a new approach for hypothesis testing of network models that are linear exponential families. We outline his vision and influence in this fundamental problem, as well as generalizations to multigraphs and hypergraphs.

The Ways of Bayes (In Memory of Stephen Fienberg)I start with reminiscence of Steve Fienberg, move to a non-technical comparison of Bayesian and frequentist approaches, discuss the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (COPSS-CMS) Hospital Profiling project, and close with a summary.

What Can Group-Level Data Tell Us About Individual Causality?on on the basis of statistical data collected on groups. While such information typically cannot identify precisely the probability of causation, it can supply bounds on it. We show how these bounds can be improved by taking account of information on additional variables, specifically covariates and mediators.
