Historische Aspekte allerdings bereits voraus, dass geklärt ist, wer im 19. Jahrhundert als Bürger oder Bürgerin zu gelten habe. Genau dieser Punkt ist aber durchaus unklar, und auch die neuere sozialgeschichtliche Forschung kann hier noch keine eindeutigen Antworten bzw. Kategorisierungen anbieten.
