Introduction,hich . at the surface of a crystalline solid. Surface states reflect the (quasi) two-dimensional (2D) nature of the surface and are ideal sensors to study physics with reduced dimensionality and broken symmetry. In this light, the thesis at hand will address the influence of spin-orbit interaction (SOI) on surface states.
