Some Applications of Spectral Theory,The remaining part of the book is actually devoted to applications of spectral theory. In this section we mainly consider applications to differential equations. The only exception is Section 1 which deals with the polar decomposition of an operator.

Perturbation Theory,In the spectrum σ of a self-adjoint operator we have extracted the point spectrum and the continuous spectrum. In some questions of perturbation theory a fairly different partition of the spectrum into subsets is more convenient.
