The Mental Revolution after the First DecadeIt resulted in a huge increase in prices, a continuing inflation, and the impoverishment of many Russian citizens. The velvet revolutionaries of 1991, like the Bolshevik revolutionaries of 1917, proved quite unable to honour their pre-revolutionary promises.

This sought to establish a powerful agency to coordinate and control all archives.. As in society at large, the influence of the centre, and ultimately of the Politburo, relentlessly increased from 1918 onwards.

Teaching about the Soviet PastHistory teaching collapsed in May 1988: school examinations were cancelled. Pupils entered the 1988/89 session with the old textbooks and with no approved syllabus.
