Shock tube studies of combustion chemistry applied in combustion studies are discussed, including effects of wall boundary layers, non-steady wave motion due to reaction exothermicity, incomplete knowledge of chemical compositions, and unsatisfactory accounting for experimental data scatter. Possible improvements of experimental and interpretive methods are presented.

The shock tube technique applied to study aerosol rate processesles, or fluid flow induced disintegration of agglomerated solid primary particles. All these aerosol rate processes were studied behind shock waves in the form of relaxation processes. Rate parameters were determined from light scattering or spectroscopic measurements as will be shown in the paper.
