Scientific software in Adas of the language Ada, is discussed. The discussion is illustrated by samples of software developed for the solution of partial differential equations by the boundary integral equation/boundary element method.

Fortran 8X features and the exploitation of parallelismtures provide the possibility for exploitation of whatever parallel hardware is available. An example is given, illustrating the comparison with Fortran 77. Also discussed is DAP Fortran, which is a language that has been available for many years and that provided the experience upon which several of the array features of Fortran 8x were based.
