Scanning Tunneling Microscopy: Semiconductor Surfaces, Adsorption, and Epitaxyaging and spectroscopic methods are described, and the methods are illustrated with examples of experimental results. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between the electronic and structural properties of a surface, and the role that this relationship plays in the interpretation of STM images.

Naked DNA Helicity Observed by Scanning Tunneling Microscopywith high resolution Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM). Constant current and barrier height STM images show a clear evidence of the helicity of the DNA structure: pitch periodicity ranges between 25 and 34 Å while the average diameter is 20 Å. Molecular structure within a single helix turn is also observed.
