GNSS Safety of Life Services: Towards a Safer and More Effective Use of European Transport Networks needs. A brief summary of the on-going EC/ESA projects, dealing with the SoL applications, is also provided. The paper provides an overview of the market forecast and a discussion of the plan for the activities required to prepare the EGNOS and Galileo user segment for the SoL users.

Complement and Augmentation of GPS from a Quasi-Zenith Orbite evolution of a regional satellite positioning system which uses the QZO as part of its constellation and the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) program incorporating GPS complement and augmentation; this is currently being promoted in Japan.

Compatibility and Interoperability of GPS and Galileo: A Continuum of Time, Geodesy, and Signal Struility (independent but non-interfering operation), to truly seamless global interoperability. Currently known system design parameters in the areas of timing, geodesy, and signal structure are addressed within this framework, and the US perspective on the importance of compatibility and interoperability between the two systems will be discussed.

Inmarsat: An Approach for Integration of EGNOS and Galileoon Systems (SBAS), and is currently the only private satellite operator that supplies suitable space segment for space-based augmentation systems. This paper provides an overview of Inmarsat and its involvement in navigation activities.
