Designing for High-Density Livingseems as if the whole culture opts for high density. Rapoport (1969) suggests that this is true for Greeks; Draper (1973) reports that the !Kung Bushmen live under crowded conditions that are not dictated by either economic or geographic necessity.谷物 发表于 2025-3-25 08:32:59

Crowding in Urban Environments: An Integration of Theory and Researchy increasing body of literature dealing with this area, however, primary questions still remain unanswered, namely: What is the relationship between population density and the individual’s perception of crowding in his living environment, and what are the psychological and physiological consequences of being crowded on a long-term basis?Enteropathic 发表于 2025-3-25 16:23:41
Field Research on the Effects of Crowding in Prisons and on Offshore Drilling Platformssibility that the degree of crowding that yielded behavior pathology in Calhoun’s studies may be approached or achieved by large segments of the world’s human population. Even now it is commonly assumed that existing degrees of crowding in urban areas contribute substantially to behavior pathology (Zlutnick & Airman, 1972).Arable 发表于 2025-3-25 23:25:26
Perception of Residential Crowding, Classroom Experiences, and Student Healthproach the environment-behavior interface by way of theoretical, or intervening constructs. These constructs help to specify the social and physical conditions under which specific features of the physical environment might correlate with certain types of behavior.Fresco 发表于 2025-3-26 02:08:49
Design Implications of Spatial Researchr is to derive some design implications from pertinent human spatial research and to suggest some future research strategies to help bridge the gap between proxemic research and design (see Altman, 1975, Chapter 11, for a thoughtful discussion of the etiology of this gap).Assault 发表于 2025-3-26 04:26:50

Introduction in personally important activities, should be obvious. If we assume that high density is inevitable for at least part of the world’s population and that high residential density is a problem that will not go away quickly, the reasons for studying the impact of residential crowding and the ways in which its effects can be ameliorated become clear.
