There is a lingering feeling that the financial system, and our securities markets in particular, may be flawed in some fundamental way, but there is no emerging consensus on what that flaw might be.

Commentary: ,,Roll’s article is interesting and contains an impressively comprehensive discussion of the issues at hand. I agree with much of what is said, although there are some issues on which, inevitably, our judgment differs.

Commentary: ,ve for the discovery and display of information and the allocation of ownership claims shouldn’t mislead us into recognizing sin for what it is. Like cigarette smoking and other forms of substance abuse, if society doesn’t have the courage to ban it outright, the least it can do is tax it. Hence the transfer tax.
