Public Policy and Regionalism: II. The Appalachian Regional Commission and other Federal Approaches chian Regional Commission was designated to apply to all, or part, of thirteen states, and was given a variety of powers and links to other programmes. It was also independent of other Federal agencies, and was supplied with at least reasonable amounts of money to carry out its work, and so was able to develop into a mature agency.

Regions and Resources in the Late Twentieth Century: East v. Westn chose Humphrey (Midwest); Nixon (California) chose Agnew (Virginia) and Ford (Midwest); Carter (Georgia) chose Mondale (Midwest). The importance of Reagan (California) choosing Bush was that the latter represented both Texas and his origins in New England, while neither Carter in 1976 and 1980 nor Mondale in 1984 covered the West.
