Replacement and Political Change 1959–70 in the years from 1959 to 1970. Inspection of the recent past has the advantage of limiting our view to a period for which our information is more ample. When we examine the 1960s we have less need of the speculative assumptions that must go into any judgment on the effects of replacement in decades longer past or in decades yet to come.
