Application of NIR Spectroscopy to Problems of Tissue Oxygenation,ar Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), has shown promise as a continuous, noninvasive indicator of regional oxidative metabolism in intact tissue. We will briefly review the principles of NIR spectroscopy and indicate how we are using NIRS to investigate some of the pertinent questions about tissue oxygenation in disease states.
