Many-body theory of the optical-model potential,We describe a calculation of the complex optical-model potential that is based on Brueckner‘s theory and on Reid‘s hard core interaction. We discuss successively nuclear matter and finite nuclei. The symmetry potential and the Coulomb correction due to the nonlocality are also computed and compared with empirical values.

Optical model potential and nuclear density distributions,Folding model calculations of the optical model potentials of alpha-particles and heavy ions are reviewed, showing the importance of accurate density distributions. The method of calculating the density distributions from single-particle potentials is described, and the contributions of some smaller effects discussed.
