The Landau-De Gennes Theory of Liquid Crystals,ly difficult task. As we have seen in chapter 3 the molecular field approximation allows us to make some progress in a logical manner for rigid particles while for real mesogenic molecules the effect of non-rigidity can be included only in a semi-intuitive manner.
