Conformational Transitions in Polydiacetylene Solutionsring the coil-to-rod transformation (yellow-to-red color change) demonstrate that dramatic color changes take place without any measurable change in hydrodynamic radius, confirming the single-chain origin of the conformational change. On aging, aggregation is observed as an order-of-magnitude increase in hydrodynamic radius.
