Genetic and Functional Studies of Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Regulatory Proteins receptors for hormones or neurotransmitters. Transducin, a protein found in high abundance in retinal rod outer segments, couples photoexcitation of rhodopsin to stimulation of a specific cGMP phosphodiesterase (PDE).

Structure and Properties of the Brain GABA/Benzodiazepine Receptor Compleximol, isoguvacine and certain other ligands are strong agonists. The second is the GABA-B receptor (1) which has none of the properties just mentioned but which, in contrast to the GABA-A receptor, requires Ca. for the binding of GABA and has baclofen as a characteristic agonist. The GABA-A receptor, exclusively, will be dealt with here.
