Language as a Physical Objects “physics” and “mechanics” in discussions of language from the late seventeenth century through the eighteenth is perhaps not without significance. Making use of the definitions in Richelet’s Dictionary,. one might canvass the proposition that, physics being the science of natural things, speech as a natural phenomenon belongs to that science.
