Role of Atriopeptin in Central Cardiovascular Controlresis (for review see Refs. 2–6). AP also binds to the adrenal glomerulosa, inhibiting the secretion of aldosterone, and to vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilatation. AP, therefore, acts as a counterregulatory hormone to reduce blood volume and blood pressure, particularly during right atrial volume overload.

Pharmacology of Excitatory Amino Acid Antagonists and their Possible Therapeutic Use in Neurologicalreceptor subtypes. Aspartate acts preferentially on the NMDA receptor in spinal cord neurons . The sulphur-containing analogues of glutamate and aspartate interact with quisqualate and NMDA receptors but not with kainate receptors .

Role of Nerve Growth Factor in the Central Nervous Systemnd of a subpopulation of sensory neurons . These findings have been taken to suggest that populations of neurons require the presence of specific neurotrophic factors for survival during development, during differentiation, and for maintenance of function .
