Since then, several new types of quasicrystalline materials have been synthesized in the laboratory under controlled protocols designed to avoid solidification of material having a periodic structure typical of a crystal.

Are Quasicrystals Really so Rare in the Universe?,ional wisdom. Icosahedrite was found to be formed naturally in CV3 chondrites that comprised the primordial material of our Solar System. So, it is not impossible to form it outside the laboratory. Since it has only been reported in one CV3 chondrite to date, one cannot draw precise quantitative conclusions.
