Passive Devices,A passive device is simply a device that adds no power to a circuit. The only devices precluded by the description passive are amplifiers and oscillators — which are active devices.

Amplifiers and Oscillators,Amplification is needed in almost all systems to increase the amplitude of a signal. It may be achieved in several ways, but these broadly fall into three categories: reflection amplifiers, parametric amplifiers and two port amplifiers. The latter include transistor circuits and microwave tube amplifiers, and are currently the most prevalent.
