Some Topics in Queueing Network Theory,eueing networks exist in real life, the study of such systems has not progressed at a pace commensurate with its importance. Rather, the theory of waiting line processes has proceeded largely as a study of single server systems. Isolated “network” results do exist but as yet no comprehensive treatment of the subject has appeared.

On the Extension of Congestion Theorems to Multi-Channel Systems,fs used for one-server systems and describes an auxiliary system which is used to extend the proofs to m-server queues. Weak convergence theorems for the virtual and the real waits are discussed and an extension of Kingman’s theorem (1961) is given as applications of the method discussed.

Heavy Traffic Limit Theorems for Queues: A Survey,r to descriptions of other growing processes associated with queues. In the same way, heavy traffic approximations for stable queues are part of a large class of approximations for queueing systems. I relate heavy traffic research to these more general activities.
