And, in those debates, the body has often been neglected in the manner of West’s ‘biped’, with our essential nature treated as somehow detached or distant from our bodies.

The Promise of the Body,. More than this, I seek to celebrate those joys and moments of exuberance that are too often trivialised as leisure or relief and as shallow and unrevealing. I seek a language that values that pleasure and does not dismiss its promise. To that end, I have explored both the meaning and the potential of Marx’s theory of human nature.
