Introduction: Lough Neagh as a multipurpose resource, Marshall (1934) began the Foreword to his essay `Lough Neagh in Legend and History’ and, given Ireland’s long history of story-telling, it is perhaps appropriate that myth and fairy-tale should start this gathering of Lough Neagh’s scientific sticks. The recent sediments of Lough Neagh,ntial shifts in the flora and fauna of the lake have taken place during the twentieth century.
