Uptake of Fatty Acid and MonoglyceridePreceding contributors have dealt with the digestion of triglyceride and the solubilization of its digestion products, fatty acid and monoglyceride. This paper deals with the passage of digestion products from lumen to cell, that is, uptake and in particular with the role of solubilization in this process.

Phospholipid AbsorptionPhospholipids (PL) have in common that they contain a phosphate group and at least one fatty acid molecule and one alcohol. Dependent on the nature of the alcohol they can be grouped as (1) glycerophospholipids, and (2) sphingophospholipids.

Aspects of Lipid Digestion and Absorption in the Ruminantid component. As a result of digestive changes which take place in the enlarged forestomach (reticulo-rumen), the lipids of the digesta entering the duodenum of ruminants consist mainly of stearic, palmitic and octadecenoic acids together with structural lipids of rumen micro-organisms; monoglyceride is virtually absent from duodenal digesta.
