World War I,ture. J.B. Conant, later well known as a chemist and administrator, was in charge. If I remember correctly he was then in uniform as a lieutenant in the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS). I think I had some good ideas about the chemical preparation of mustard gas, but was too timid to talk to him about them.
