Sterne and the Scientific Study of Man,Sir Isaac Newton was not a particularly Hobbyhorsical character. He even expressed the opinion that his system of philosophy was not Hobbyhorsical—as for instance in Rule One, from ‘The System of the World’, Book III of the .: ‘We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances’.
