Zucker,r wurde später durch den zuckerhaltigen Zellsaft des in tropischen Ländern angebauten Zuckerrohrs zurückgedrängt. Erst sehr viel später kam die Gewinnung von Zucker aus der in gemäßigten Klimazonen angebauten Zuckerrübe hinzu.
