The Subset Principle is an Intensional Principle,grammar from the input (the environment)? Extensive research has shown that the input greatly underdetermines the grammar. The general answer is that there are innate principles of grammar, and that a small amount of knowledge, particularly the lexicon and the values of grammatical parameters, is the result of experience.
