Klientelismus,Klientelismus im politikwissenschaftlichen Verständnis bezeichnet den Tausch von Gütern und Dienstleistungen gegen politische Unterstützung und Wählerstimmen. Auf diese Kerndefinition wird das Phänomen politischer Klientelismus in der Literatur oft heruntergebrochen. Allerdings ist das Konzept um einiges vielschichtiger und komplexer.
