Stahlbeton-Bauteile,o mehr, je weniger Hohlräume er enthält. Weil die einzelnen Gesteinskörner allein durch die Klebkraft des Zements miteinander verbunden sind, kann jedoch Beton nur geringe Zugkräfte aufnehmen. Die Vorschriften verbieten daher jegliche Zuweisung von Zugkräften an den Beton. Dies ist Aufgabe der Bewehrung mit Stahl, der sehr zugfest ist.
