Typewriters and electronic printers: teaching keyboard skills,s on paper and constructing the written word. For the child who is unlikely to develop the skills required for handwriting, a keyboard should be introduced as early as possible. ‘It is wasteful and frustrating to child and teacher alike to urge the child to try to write when the task is well nigh impossible’ (Bowley, 1969).
